TUBA U: Basso Profundo was written, produced and directed by Todd Jarrell who began producing when, after a career in television advertising he, joined a round-the-world tall-ship voyage and worked as crew while creating a public radio series from such places as Easter Island, Bora Bora & Zanzibar. His experiences were later published as the audiobook Slow Dance with the Planet; (Highbridge). Passion for world culture has led Jarrell to more than 50 countries across seven continents and 70,000 miles of tall-ship voyaging (at 5 mph!).
His television works include the double EMMY award-winning, CRANK: Darkness on the Edge of Town (APT), which traces the trajectory that methamphetamine takes through one rural town (www.wcte.org/crank): Meth in Tennessee, for Nashville's WKRN (ABC), which nominated for a national EMMY; Tree Safari: A Sculptural Journey (www.pbs.org/treesafari), a Shop PBS Featured Title, filmed in South Africa; and Change of Heart, which explores one young man's work with Cape Town's street children.
His radio works include: All Things Considered; Weekend America; The World; The Savvy Traveler; Great Lakes Radio Consortium; CBC Radio One (Canada); Radio Netherlands World Service; and BBC Radio 4's Last of the Cape Horners and Tall Ship in Antarctica series. His print/Internet work includes: National Geographic News; CNN.com; Lonely Planet guidebook, Hemispheres (USA), Wingspan (Japan) and Traditional Boats and Tall Ships (UK), Italian America, Polar Times and newsprint including Houston Chronicle, New Orleans Times-Picayune, Canada's national daily Globe and Mail, and many more.
